Step into a realm where art intertwines with the profound stages of a woman’s life, illuminated through vibrant mixed media compositions. Artist Jessica Woody celebrates femininity, spiritual awakening, and the transformative power of resilience, all while championing environmental consciousness through repurposed materials. By repurposing discarded vinyl records, Woody transforms these once-forgotten objects into stunning works of art.
A Canvas of Sound
Woody’s artistic journey began with a fascination for vintage materials. She discovered the potential of vinyl records as a canvas, their smooth, dark surface providing a striking backdrop for her vibrant collages. Woody ingeniously repurposes scratched, defective, or discarded vinyl records as her canvas, salvaging these artifacts from oblivion and imbuing them with new life. Woody incorporates hand-cut paper ephemera from vintage magazines and books with intricate white dot patterns and designs, and the results evoke a sense of nostalgia and romance.
“I take pleasure in telling a story through my colorful collage; selecting each piece of ephemera to convey my vision,” Woody said. Some of Woody’s works incorporate Tulsa motifs, such as downtown’s iconic Art Deco buildings and the Western Motel.
Meticulously hand-cut paper ephemera sourced from vintage magazines and books form intricate collages, each piece meticulously painted with non-traditional, dimensional acrylics and sealed with a decoupage finish. The result is a kaleidoscope of colors and textures that convey the depth and richness of the feminine experience.
Central to Woody’s vision are the contrasting elements within each composition: the vivid hues captured in the paper collages juxtaposed against the stark backgrounds of black vinyl and textured, white acrylic dots. This interplay enhances the symbology, mood, and thematic resonance of each artwork, creating a visual dynamic that resonates deeply with viewers.

A Personal Narrative
Inspired by personal life experiences, the testimonies of family members, Biblical scripture, and the narratives found in vintage periodicals, Woody’s creative process is as much a journey of self-discovery as it is a celebration of womanhood in its myriad forms.
Woody’s artistic talents extend beyond her vinyl creations. She is also a poet and author, having published a book titled “Temptatious Tasting” that combines poetry, recipes, and romantic date night ideas.
Woody’s passion for art is evident in every piece she creates. Her work not only celebrates the beauty of the past but also inspires us to embrace the future. By transforming discarded objects into stunning works of art, Woody demonstrates the power of creativity and the importance of sustainability.
