Celebrate Creativity, Community, and Literacy at VERSES

Calling all bookworms, art enthusiasts, and community champions! The Tulsa Artists’ Coalition (TAC) is thrilled to participate in the second annual Tulsa City-County Library (TCCL) “VERSES Makers Market and Community Festival” on September 28th!

Mark your calendars! This exciting event is your one-stop shop for a delightful evening. Browse unique finds from a vibrant market featuring local artists and authors. Immerse yourself in the magic of live readings and performances. Savor delicious food and drinks while taking it all in. And most importantly, support the incredible adult literacy program offered by the TCCL.

VERSES is more than just a festival. It’s an opportunity to make a difference. This ticketed event features accessible pricing, with the proceeds directly supporting adult literacy initiatives in our community. Join us as we celebrate the TCCL’s vital adult literacy program, raise awareness about the importance of literacy for all, and empower our thriving local creative scene!

Did you know? One in six adults in Tulsa County struggles with basic literacy skills, making it challenging to read a prescription label, understand news articles, or even fill out applications.

The Ruth G. Hardman Adult Literacy Service steps in to bridge this gap. This free, one-on-one program is the only comprehensive service of its kind in Tulsa County. TCCL equips passionate volunteers from the community to guide adult learners on their literacy journey. The program provides all the necessary materials and ongoing support for both tutors and students.

A Global Reach: Interestingly, nearly half of the 250 adult learners are English as a second language learners (ESLs). Spanish is the most common native language among ESLs, but the program welcomes students from all corners of the world, including Syria, Taiwan, India, Israel, Korea, and Germany. Each ESL shares a common goal: to confidently understand and speak English. Thanks to dedicated ESL specialists, funded by the Tulsa Library Trust and The Raymond and Bessie Kravis Foundation, these ambitious learners are empowered to pursue better jobs, further their education, achieve financial independence, connect with their communities, and boost their confidence.

Join us at VERSES on September 28th! Let’s celebrate creativity, foster community connections, and empower adults with the gift of literacy. Visit www.tulsalibrary.org/verses to learn more and get your tickets!
