Painting and drawing allow me to record past and present life experiences. Creating art that is expressive as well as meaningful is an ongoing endeavor. The human figure is a preferred subject of mine. The communicative and haunting power of a facial expression, the movement and vulnerability of the body, and my desire to visually communicate my life's experiences are endless sources of inspiration. While still maintaining the figure as my primary subject matter, I am increasingly drawn to painting and drawing people in environments. I am using water, nature, and birds as symbols of life, death, freedom, and rebirth. The appeal of water and birds can be traced back to my youth, growing up on a small island. Over time my artwork has become more narrative and autobiographical, and I'm using symbols to create mystery and bring my stories to life.
