ABOUT THE ARTISTS

CRE-8 Studios is a group of four artists who have been making and exhibiting art in Tulsa for years, some for decades. CRE-8 consists of abstract expressionist painter Rita Rowe, assemblage artist Sallie Gardner, charcoal and graphite artist Kayla Anley, and figurative acrylic painter Krysta Quinn. Although the women each have distinctive styles, they are united by their love of art and the synergy of their studio.

Rita Rowe was educated in Tulsa Public Schools and studied art at Tulsa Junior College and University of Tulsa. She has participated in many private workshops. After spending a career in advertising and media, Rita retired and is finally able to devote time to her painting. She is an active member and juried participant in exhibits of Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition, Tulsa Artists Coalition, Visual Arts of Oklahoma and Fiber Arts of Oklahoma. She works primarily in watercolor and acrylic painting, mixed media, weaving and paper making.

Sallie Gardner is an assemblage artist who began making art in earnest in 2012 and joined the former Urban Art Lab Studios in 2019. Previously, she had taken classes in graphic design while earning a BA in Journalism at the University of South Carolina. The common thread in Sallie’s works is that the pieces tell a story, often with whimsy and humor. Sallie has exhibited at The Liggett Gallery, Chrysalis, and the TAC 5 x 5 show.

Krysta Quinn completed several art classes at her alma mater, LSU, but she is primarily self taught. She is a popular art teacher herself, instructing small groups of students in self portraiture, animal portraiture, and still-life. In addition to her vivid paintings of nature scenes, Krysta accepts commissions for live paintings at weddings. Her works have been shown at Mayfest, Kendall Whittier Art Fest, and Align Design in a group and solo show.
